Spade, n. [AS. spaed; spada; akin to D. spade, G. spaten, Icel. spaði, Dan. & Sw. spade, L. spatha a spatula, a broad two-edged sword, a spathe, Gr. σπάθη. Cf. Epaulet, Spade at cards, Spathe, Spatula.]
